4-8-21 update
SDHGPA LiveTrack24 Group
(#316) SDHGPA - San Diego Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association
LiveTrack24 will merge all relevant tracking data from multiple devices providing most up to date live positions.
This now includes Personal Satellite Trackers (Spot or In-Reach) along with GPRS mobile networks. Best part is that it has a light data App interface that is tolerant of spotty cell coverage and only requires text based level of coverage to receive and store data for yourself and locations of friends and groups.

LiveTrack24 Live Tracking:
By using a GPS to determine your position and a mobile network or Personal Satellite Tracker (Spot or In-Reach) to send this position in Real Time to a server, other people can see your exact position presented in a Table or Map in Real Time.

The LiveTrack24 was originally designed for smartphone and dedicated GPRS tracking Devices; However the system will now also receive and merge data from multiple devises including Personal Satellite Trackers like Spot & In-reach. You can link your SPOT / DSX / Yellowbrick / FLARM / OGN tracker to your account (under: Edit Account)
There are Free and paid levels of LiveTrack24 service ($0, ~ $1, & $2/ month ) - However the free account is all that is required to join the SDHGPA group and be listed in the group list and maps to help with XC retrieve. Paid levels adds radar and additional live data fields like wind speed and climb rate of each pilot.

How It Works:
There are many ways to achieve LiveTracking. LiveTrack24 Live uses your mobile to run a program that collects the gps information from a bluetooth GPS or the internal GPS reciever of smartphones and sends this info to the LiveRrack24server. The LiveRrack24server can also now connect to various Satellite trackers and use that data as a backup in case the GSM network is not available. Or Use Satellite trackers as a main tracking device. LiveTrack24 will merge the data from Satellite / FLARM sources and data from GSM devices to produce a tracklog as complete as possible.
The server stores all the info into a database and diplays your position in Real time with Google Maps or 3D in Google Earth

There are several Smart Phone & GSM device applications that interface with the LiveTrack24 servers:
- XCSoar (can send track to LiveTrack24 if logging track)
- Gaggle (can send track to LiveTrack24 if logging track)
- LK8000 (can send track to LiveTrack24 if logging track)
- ThermGeek (can send track to LiveTrack24 if logging track)
- SkyLogger
- (Unfortunately the native Live Track 24 App is no longer supported or unless installed prior) LiveTrack24 (uses least data bandwidth) (can send track to LiveTrack24 if logging track and can View others in a great radar mode) For Android users use this App: Livetrack24+ Group Monitor (hopefully someone will pick up this code & app)
There are several Instruments with GSM capabilities that will interface directly with the LiveTrack24 servers:
- LiveTracker24 devices (can send track to LiveTrack24 if logging track)
- C-Pilot Evo & C-Pilot Easy (can send track to LiveTrack24 if logging track)
- Flymaster Live (can send track to LiveTrack24 if logging track)
Supported Satellite/non-GSM Trackers list has grown: Add this option under your "Edit Account" page of LiveTrack24.
- SPOT Satellite Tracker
- Delorme InReach Satellite tracker
- YellowBrick Satellite Tracker
- DSX Safly Satellite trackers
- FLARM/OGN/ICA tracking

LiveTrack24 Testing & Set-up Notes / Bugs:
- Add Satellite Tracking link is under "Edit Account" on LiveTrack24 website above tracker pictures.
- Tweets only go out if both Facebook Automatic Post & Twitter Automatic posting is turned on in LiveTrack24 under "Tracking Profiles". - **** There is a work around if you would only like to Tweet Track Start & Stop Status and not have posts visible on Facebook: In LiveTrack24 turn on both Facebook And Tweet functions and verify with the Facebook LiveTrack24 connection App. When setting up the Facebook connection app; change "App visibility and post audience" to "Only Me". Or to change Facebook visibility at a later date: Go to your Facebook page. In the Upper blue bar, Click the "down arrow", From the menu, select "Settings", on the left hand side select "Apps", select "LiveTrack24", change "App visibility and post audience" to "Only Me".
- Group Map 2D Local time does not display local time correctly. GTM-3 is shown with no option to change map displays.
- Would be nice to be able to toggle track lines in Group 2D maps as in: http://xcfind.paraglide.us/map.html?id=16
- 3D Google earth plug-in Maps are nice, but only work with FireFox Browser. GE plug-in no longer supported in Chrome and IE Browsers. ( 3D map viewing is in process of migration from the Google Earth API to the new 3D visualisation platform Cesium. Individual and Comp task viewing has been migrated. Groups have not yet been migrated)
- If using your phone as a tracking device us an external battery / power bank. Recommend sizing your bank to have 3 x charge capability of your phone / device. Recommend Anker as a Good quality & relatively inexpensive power banks.
Please also take the time to set all of your GPS and tracking devices and display coordinates in your mapping program preferences to UTM and Degrees Decimal format (DD.DDDD, -DD.DDDD). Our SDHGPA Standard for GPS coordinates is UTM Degrees Decimal format (DD.DDDD, -DD.DDDD) and what USHPA has adopted and is recommending as a standard at all national comps.
Also ask to be added to the XC Find California Tracking Group (if using Spot or InReach) : Email David Wheeler at the email listed on the bottom left of the XC Find page.
